Episode 17: Noah Healy and Creating the Most Equitable Market
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Commodities markets are insanely complex and fascinating, but that fascinating complexity has real-world consequences. They're also very volatile. And this volatility affects consumers and producers of goods and services, which is one of the most critical drivers of the global economy, responsible for trillions of dollars in goods each year.
Commodities are highly susceptible to price variations, sometimes minute to minute, and can be influenced by a wide range of factors, from weather patterns to geopolitical instability. As a result, even the most experienced investors can find themselves caught off guard by sudden price movements. But data and history suggest that recent extraordinary price increases in commodities may be driven by Ponzi-like speculation.
Noah Healy, who calls himself a recreational mathematician, is an entrepreneur with an engineering background and wants to make the market more equitable to everyone. Noah's Coordinated Discovery Markets (CDM), or CDM, is a new way of trading commodities designed to make the process more efficient and transparent. By aligning the interests of market participants, CDM will help to create a market that benefits everyone involved.

Episode 16: Part 3: Dr. Andy Schmookler and The Dynamics of Polarization
Friday Aug 05, 2022
Friday Aug 05, 2022
Dr. Andrew Bard Schmookler began his life's work in the late 1960s, studying how forces – constructive and, primarily, destructive – operate in civilized societies. He wrote several books on these subjects.
Andy had a front-row seat to watch a dynamic change in our political discourse. He had a call-in radio program in the early 1990s and where he once was able to find some common ground or mutual respect with opinions that might vary from his own. Still, he noticed a seismic shift beginning in the mid-1990s. as a man who had studied societies, he understood the sinister undercurrent and unsuspecting actors coagulating together in what might ultimately unravel humanity itself. Andy began sounding the alarm in 2004 and has been ever since.
In an episode that bookends the first two parts of our discussion - In Part 3: The Dynamics of Polarization, Andy and I discuss the deep roots of polarization and the dark road we're on, but fear not, Andy reminds us in the end, there have been dire situations for us before, and even some positive ones we didn't see coming out of the darkness.

What is Artificial Intelligence? If you ask the folks at Google, Facebook or Microsoft, they'll tell you it's the future of computing, a revolutionary new way of making computers more human-like in their abilities. They're not wrong, exactly. But they're not telling the whole story, either.
Artificial Intelligence is here, but the better question is: what will happen to the world when AI becomes more intelligent than humans? To explore this question, we look at the good and the bad sides: how does artificial intelligence change everything from our economy to weapons systems in a future where machines take over most human jobs (and create the world's first trillionaires)? And there are undoubtedly other implications for society as humans subcontract everything from driving cars or making wars to machines.
Deeper than that, what happens to human ingenuity when we outsource all our purpose away?

Episode 14: Jackey Neyman Jones and Life After Manos: The Hands of Fate
Friday Jul 29, 2022
Friday Jul 29, 2022
For those who don't know it, 1966's "Manos: The Hands of Fate" is the stock answer for "worst movie ever made." The backstory is more compelling than the movie itself: El Paso fertilizer salesman Harold P. Warren wrote, produced, directed, and acted in "Manos" after betting anyone could make a film. He assembled a cast, shot the movie in eight days, and the result was disastrous enough that the movie fell into obscurity.
At just six years old, Jackey Neyman Jones played the role of Debbie in the film. A movie that was forgotten until a crew member at mystery science theater 3000 made a lucky find rummaging through a box of old VHS tapes. Becoming perhaps, its most popular episode, Jackey talks about the ongoing interest in the film despite its initial, complete dismissal. We also discuss how a new world of opportunities have opened up since, proving that our past is never truly buried or forgotten.

Dr. Andrew Bard Schmookler began his life's work in the late 1960s, studying how forces – constructive and, primarily, destructive – operate in civilized societies. He wrote several books on these subjects (which you can find in the description of this podcast), but in 2004, Dr. Schmookler focused his attention on the current crisis in America, which he sees as perhaps the most profound face this nation in its history: He sees a destructive force of brokenness within the Republican Party, and a woefully weak Democratic Party ill-equipped to confront it.
The first part, The Conservative Forces of Brokenness, focused on the darkness that seeped into the conservative party after 1964 and hastened by the mid-1990s. In this episode, Dr. Schmookler and I continue our discussion, confronting the ways in which the Democrats could not see the storm gathering in front of them and the weaknesses that continue to permeate a party that might be our last best hope at keeping a Democracy.

In the end, what Dr. Schmookler is genuinely doing is trying to help us find a better human story.
In Part 1, we discuss how a destructive force has overtaken the Republican Party and threatens to undo the American body politic. We're provided with a brief history lesson about where Dr. Schmookler believes the evil began to fester and overtake the once-proud party of Dwight D. Eisenhower, creating what it has become today.

Episode 11: A Soul Led Purpose with Pamella Pritchard

A growing number of creatives, executives, and entrepreneurs are now teaming up with life coaches to attain success not only in their professional lives but in their personal ones as well. They frequently pair up with coaches to work through barriers that may interfere with finding the life they want. This may take shape by having a coach identify their passion or carving out their ideal career path.
Pamella Pritchard should know. She successfully spent a decade in recruitment, H.R., Account Management and Sales, but like many of the professionals that she has helped, she had found herself in the same position; meeting and exceeding career and financial goals, then finding herself burnt out and wondering if this was all there was to life? Well, she did find there was more and today she's a life coach and founder of Coaching with Pamella. The journey she took is very relatable but what I think we find out from her is that just because we followed a path doesn't mean it's written, the pages of your life are filling but they aren't full, sure the ink has dried on yesterday and the days before that, but there's still plenty of pages left in the story.
My conversation with Pamella have some deep exchanges about life, money, and finding what sets you on fire. We also delve into topics such as setting healthy boundaries and how feminine and masculine energies have not much to do with Gender, but more with balance

In 2014, Dan Wise was three days away from self-surrendering to a federal for 43 months. he pointed a camera at himself and recorded a 22-minute off-the-cuff diatribe over the fears, regrets, and what might be waiting for him when he went to prison. But Dan's experience behind bars was anything but what he expected, and the freedom lost, combined with the RDAP program, gave Dan the time to find his true freedom in accountability. Today, Dan has become one of the nation's leading federal prison consultants by creating content on YouTube for federal defense attorneys and individuals facing prison for the first time.

The thing about any addiction is that it will never say no to you. Even when it hurts you, your addiction never calls you or forces you. You summon it. You actually hold power over it, but that power controls you for one reason or another.
The most silent and least talked about addiction of all is pornography. The true crux of pornography is the fantasy of an intimate connection that leaves you more isolated than when you started. Worse yet, stigmas and shame have made it difficult for those suffering from this addiction to seek help.
Joshua Shea breaks down the silent epidemic and the road to recovery to discuss this topic. He, himself, is a recovering pornography addict who can discuss what goes on inside the mind of a porn addict. Joshua’s 20-year addiction came to a head when he pulled himself off his bipolar medication and engaged an underage girl in an online chat room. Now sober, Joshua is here to help with an intimate look at his own story and the motivating factors behind what drove his addiction and what might be driving yours.

About The With Jay Burke Show
We live in an amazing age, even if we fail to know it. Anything you want to know, want to see, want to look deeper at, or listen to is at your fingertips for the simple fact it’s there…but we appear more confused than ever. The clatter, the commotion, the pull of the world around us trying to take us in whatever direction it wants. It’s difficult to know where to go, and who to trust. Sometimes, it’s just difficult to have some fun with what’s going on out there.
My name is Jason Burke, and though, I’m technically the host of this podcast, it’s the guests who truly take top billing. This is a place for curious minds who enjoy civil and sometimes meandering conversation. If you appreciate a few laughs and want to come away with new knowledge or a simple understanding of subjects that aren’t always easy to break down, you’re the person I want listening to this podcast.
Join me as we cut through the noise and chaos using experts, educators, authors, influencers, friends, fellow podcasters, people from all walks of life, and sometimes my magical google powers to get to the bottom of a diverse range of topics, both big and small, exciting and mundane, or simply just because we want to know.
Some episodes may cover the big questions of public policy, the profound meditations of philosophy, the wonders of science, or the intricacies of everyday existence, While other episodes may take a light approach to cover sports topics, pop culture happenings, strange facts or fictions. Nothing is off the table. It won’t always be a straight line, but take the journey and escape for a while for thoughtful excursions into the world of ideas across media, politics, technology, pop culture, and all realms of civic life.
